It wasn’t pretty, by any stretch of the imagination, but Justin Hodges has won the first fight of his boxing career.
Hodges and Rob Baron met at centre ring after the bell rang and after a few seconds of testing each other out, they began swinging wildly.
It may have resembled a fight you’d more expect to see take place on a video game console, but Hodges won’t care. A win’s, a win.
Hodges knocked Baron down in the opening minute and after rising from the eight count, it didn’t take long for the former NRL star to move in for the kill and knock his opponent down twice more to earn the TKO.
The bout took place on the main card just before Tim Tszyu decimated his opponent and Paul Gallen brutally knocked out John Hopoate in the main event of the night.
“I was nervous once I got into the ring,’’ Hodges said.
“He got me once on the chin and I thought `holy hell we’re in for a fight’. My plan went out the window.
“Then, I caught him and hurt him and I wanted to get him out of there as quick as I could before he got his second wind.
